SLSV Checklist

The SLSV Checklist is a foundational four-step framework designed to help campuses institutionalize student democratic engagement for sustainable, long-term impact. Built on the principle that local leaders who know their campus best are most equipped to drive dramatic increases in voter participation, the checklist guides institutions through appointing campus vote coordinators, building diverse coalitions, accessing voter data, and developing comprehensive action plans.

The four steps—Lead (appointing a campus vote coordinator), engage (building diverse campus coalitions), assess (analyzing campus voting data through NSLVE), and plan (developing strategic action plans using resources like the Strengthening American Democracy Action Guide)—provide a systematic approach that moves beyond transactional voter engagement to building sustainable campus cultures of democratic participation. The resource connects users to coaching support, data resources, and strategic planning tools while encouraging participation in recognized programs like the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.

How would a campus best use this resource?
Coalition Partners can use the SLSV Checklist as their starting framework for building or strengthening campus democratic engagement infrastructure. Partners should work through each step systematically: identifying and appointing campus vote coordinators with institutional support, assembling diverse coalitions including student affairs, academic affairs, student leadership, and community partners, accessing and analyzing their campus voting data through NSLVE, and developing comprehensive action plans with connections to coaching programs and peer institutions for ongoing support and evaluation.
