Nonprofit Campus Partnership Guide

The Nonprofit Campus Partnership Guide provides nonprofit organizations with innovative strategies and best practices for collaborating with college and university campus voting coalitions. Developed by the SLSV Coalition’s Action Plan Working Group, this resource addresses the gap many nonprofits face in lacking institutional knowledge necessary to initiate and sustain successful partnerships with student-led groups. The guide recognizes that while nonprofits are uniquely positioned to support campus voting coalitions, effective collaboration requires understanding campus contexts, stakeholder dynamics, and nonpartisan engagement principles.

The resource includes practical guidance on finding and engaging campus voting coalitions, understanding different coalition models (endorsement, associate, and partner), supporting action plan development, and navigating considerations like timing, capacity, and nonpartisan requirements. It features detailed case studies from six diverse institutions, template emails for outreach, and comprehensive information on common coalition activities and key stakeholders. The guide emphasizes that successful partnerships require patience, flexibility, and active listening to campus needs rather than imposing external solutions.

How would a campus best use this resource?
Coalition Partners can utilize this guide by following the systematic approach to identify and engage campus voting coalitions in their communities, using provided template emails and outreach strategies for initial contact, understanding different coalition models to tailor their engagement appropriately, supporting campus action plan development through the frameworks and resources provided, and learning from detailed case studies to adapt successful partnership models to their local contexts. The guide provides both strategic framework and practical implementation tools for building sustained nonprofit-campus partnerships.
