The Students Learn Students Vote (“SLSV”) Coalition and more than 800 partners throughout the US are set to launch the 2024 celebration of National Voter Education Week (“NVEW”), a national open-source campaign to help voters access information and resources to help themselves and their communities cast their ballots with confidence in this year’s elections.
This week of interactive education, which takes place October 7-11, is the fifth annual NVEW celebration and will feature significant changes this year to help voters everywhere prepare for the 2024 election, including a revamped website and a brand new action item on the NVEW Voting Checklist: “understand the process,” which helps voters understand and track how their votes are counted and how elections are administered in states and districts throughout the country.
In addition to “Understand the Process,” NVEW 2024 highlights four other calls-to-action that encapsulate the full voting journey: “register to vote,” “make a plan to vote,” “get to know your ballot,” and “share with your friends and family.”
“It’s never been more important to help voters feel confident – not just in their ability to vote, but in the fact that their vote matters and will be counted equally and accurately,” said SLSV Coalition Deputy Director Eddy Zerbe.
The SLSV Coalition chairs the NVEW Steering Committee, a group of more than 20 organizations from across the corporate, public, and nonprofit sectors, all of which are committed to preparing voters to bridge the gap between registering to vote, and actually casting a ballot. NVEW Steering Committee members and partners throughout the US are planning more than 200 events ranging from voter registration tabling and voter education classroom presentations, to drag performances and cookouts. Some highlights include The Team’s 2024 All Star Meeting featuring WNBA All-Star Natasha Cloud, NCAA President Charlie Baker, Maryland Governor Wes Moore, and UCLA quarterback Chase Griffin, a Drag Out The Vote NVEW celebration at Pace University in New York, and a Voting Rights Trivia Night at the Museum of the Moving Image.
“Our partners and fellow NVEW Steering Committee members have worked hard to level-up our campaign this year,” said Zerbe. “We expect to see more celebrations and reach more voters than ever in the five years we’ve been celebrating NVEW.”
NVEW was founded in 2020 and is one of four Civic Holidays along with National Voter Registration Day (which took place this year on September 17), Vote Early Day (October 29), and Election Hero Day (November 4).
The SLSV Coalition is the largest nonpartisan coalition in the US dedicated to growing the student vote, and serves as the chair of the National Voter Education Week Steering Committee.
