Groundbreaking national program selects 24 members from 20 campuses throughout the US.
Ask Every Student, the national joint initiative that facilitates collaboration between campus leaders and nonprofit partners to help campuses ask every student to participate in the democratic process and achieve full student voter registration, announced today its 2022 Codesigner Cohort.
Comprised of 24 student, faculty, and staff participants representing a diverse group of 20 campuses across the country, the 2022 Codesigner Cohort will work to develop innovative strategies and resources to increase student democratic participation on college campuses using the Ask Every Student Framework. Together they will employ, and build upon, the innovative human-centered design processes that helped Ask Every Student produce significant gains in student democratic participation on participating campuses during the 2020 election cycle, according to an extensive 2021 academic study of the initiative’s efficacy.
“As a framework and as an initiative, incorporating the broadest possible array of needs and perspectives is essential to Ask Every Student,” said Maddie Wolf, Human-Centered Designer for the Students Learn Students Vote (SLSV) Coalition, an Ask Every Student Steering Committee member and the national hub and largest nonpartisan network in the United States dedicated to increasing college student voter participation. “The 2022 Codesigner Cohort brings not only an extraordinary wealth and diversity of perspective to Ask Every Student, but also an exceptional group of individuals who will push us forward with ideas and their own development of original resources to make this initiative more impactful, scalable, adaptable, and sustainable.”
The 2022 Codesigner Cohort includes local student, faculty, and campus staff leaders representing 20 campuses across the country, including 5 community colleges, and 7 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). The Cohort’s diversity of institution type, student body demographics, and member experience, are all essential components for developing resources that are truly adaptable and scalable for any campus, regardless of size, type, or context.
“Having implemented and studied the impact of Ask Every Student in 2020, we enter 2022 with a strong proof of concept that this idea works, and can be implemented on campuses of any type or size,” said SLSV Coalition Executive Director Clarissa Unger. “We can’t wait to see how the 2022 Codesigner Cohort will build on the success of Ask Every Student’s unique, human-centered design approach towards creating resources that help us realize our vision of ensuring every individual student has easy and equal access to voter registration where they live,”
